Chelsea are reportedly interested in forward Ollie Watkins from Championship side Brentford – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter believe he could be worth the punt.

According to the Daily Star, the Blues have identified the 24-year-old as a “long-term” transfer target.

It is understood that Frank Lampard’s side still want to sign another striker while the January transfer window is open and they are keeping tabs on Brentford’s talisman.

Watkins has been in stunning form this campaign for a Brentford side that sit fifth in the Championship and are chasing promotion to the top-flight.

The English centre-forward has already scored 18 league goals for the Bees this season and that follows on from 12 goals in all competitions last year.

He made the breakthrough to senior football as a skilful winger, but has been shifted into a more central role and is starting to show a real clinical touch with some of his finishing round the penalty area.

Watkins has no previous experience in the Premier League, but instead has made a name for himself in League Two with Exeter City and now at Griffin Park with Brentford.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe it could be worth taking a chance on the inexperienced striker, as he certainly knows where the goal is.
