Chelsea have a reported interest in RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter are convinced he would be a good signing in the summer.
The Mirror reports that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has picked out the 21-year-old as a priority target for the summer.
It is explained that he could potentially exit in the summer when his contract enters its final year and that he’s been singled out as someone that could partner Antonio Rudiger at Stamford Bridge.
The report adds that Arsenal are also interested in the French defender alongside the Blues.
Upamecano moved to German top-flight club Leipzig in 2017 and he’s quickly turned into a consistent performer for them.
The youngster is already a leader in a three-man defence that has rapid pace to cover in behind and he’s a great passer too.
He’s a mainstay in a side that are just a point behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in their domestic divisions, meanwhile they are currently 1-0 ahead on aggregate during a Champions league last-16 tie with Tottenham.
Highly-rated Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu is currently out on a season-long loan with Leipzig, but he’s being kept out of the side by Upamecano.
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media have given an excited response to the speculation and are optimistic that the Leipzig star could help a defence that has struggled so far this campaign.
The club already have playmaker Hakim Ziyech arriving in the summer from Ajax and fans will hope it will be a busy window at the end of the campaign.
