Chelsea fans split on reported offer to sign Thomas Lemar

Chelsea have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar. The 24-year-old has struggled since moving to Spain from the French side Monaco in 2018, and some Chelsea fans feel it will be the same story in England.

However, some Blues fans feel that his poor spell in Spain could be a one-off and that the French winger could prove to be a valuable signing for Frank Lampard’s men.

Lemar has made 64 appearances for Atletico since his move to the capital. In those games, he has scored just three goals and provided six assists. They are disappointing numbers for a player who looked so dangerous for Monaco just two years ago.

Lampard is keen to add attacking reinforcements to his squad this month. After Borussia Dortmund insisted Jadon Sancho will not be leaving the club in January, the Chelsea boss has been forced to look elsewhere.

Crystal Palace’s valuation of Wilfried Zaha, alongside his astronomical wage demands, means that he is another target who may have to be forgotten. The Blues do not want to make rash signings like they have done in recent times.

The option of an initial loan deal for Lemar makes more sense for the club. They can assess whether the player from his time at Monaco is still in there somewhere, or if that was just a purple patch of form. A decision could then be made on whether he is worth a permanent move.

Chelsea fans are split on their opinions of Lemar. Here are some of their reactions to the links on Twitter:
