Chelsea are getting close to completing the signing of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

That is according to a report from The Guardian.

They claimed late on Wednesday night that Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Premier League rivals Brighton.

It is explained that discussions between the clubs have progressed this week regarding the midfielder, but it’s unclear if Chelsea will fork out the £100million asking price.

The report added that the Blues hope to have the 21-year-old signed in time to face Liverpool this Sunday in their opening fixture of the league season.

The report above mentions that Chelsea’s most recent bid for Caicedo was worth £80million, so it’ll be interesting to find out what fee they’re likely to pay.

Regardless, this news should be music to the ears of the Blues fanbase.

Mauricio Pochettino’s squad is crying out for the addition of a top quality defensive midfielder, and it sounds like they’re about to recruit one of the very best in the entire division.

Described as “incredible” by Adams Lallana on Sky Sports, Caicedo is everything Chelsea need in the No 6 position. His potential partnership alongside Enzo Fernandez is particularly exciting.

We can’t wait to see how good the young Ecuador international can become with more experience, too.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter a few days ago that Caicedo sent a clear message to Brighton he wants to be old to Chelsea in this summer transfer window.

Thankfully, we may be getting closer to the South American star getting his dream move.
