Chelsea have been working on a deal to sign Montpellier striker Elye Wahi for a number of days now as Mauricio Pochettino looks to sign another new forward.

That is according to L’Equipe in France.

So, what are the details involving Chelsea and Elye Wahi? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea have already completed the £32m signing of Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, although it seems as if Pochettino wants more attacking reinforcements.

L’Equipe believe the Blues have been in talks over a deal to sign Wahi for several days now, and are expected to submit an official bid later this week.

The French news outlet add that Eintracht Frankfurt are also pushing hard to sign the Montpellier No.21 – who has already rejected offers from Bournemouth, Lazio and Union Berlin.

L’Equipe add that Montpellier value the France Under-21 international at a sum of €30m (£26m).

Wahi himself is said to be feeling patient and is assessing all of his options, in order to make the best decision.

Chelsea could sign another diamond in Elye Wahi

Chelsea have already snapped up a bunch of precocious talents, such as Andrey Santos, Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka and Mykhailo Mudryk.

If the Blues can now secure a deal for Wahi as well, the Frenchman could go on to be the best of the lot.

The 20-year-old operates at a level beyond his years, scoring 19 goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season, more than Lionel Messi’s tally of 16 and also Neymar’s haul of 13 goals.

Interestingly, Wahi is the only player in the last 40 years – along with Kylian Mbappe – to score 20 goals in Ligue 1 before turning 20 years of age, which is some achievement.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as talks between Chelsea and Montpellier continue.
