Chelsea have enquired about signing one of Brazilian football’s most promising prospects.

That is according to a report from Calciomercato.it.

It claims that Chelsea have asked for information on Fluminense attacker Matheus Reis.

The Brazil youth international, who was born in Mexico, will not come cheap, though.

Calciomercato.it has also claimed that Reis’ release clause is set at €50m (£43.7m), while the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are interested as well, so this would not be a straight forward transfer for Chelsea.

While it would be an incredible amount of money to spend on a 16-year-old, you would not put it past Chelsea. Spending has not been a problem for Todd Boehly and the club, who have put an emphasis on signing young players.

Brazil a good market for Chelsea to look at

Despite Reis’ high release clause, Chelsea are still looking in the right place by searching the Brazilian market.

A lot of young and talented players have come out of it in recent years, with Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior the standout name.

The Blues have already tapped into it, bringing in both Deivid Washington and Angelo from Santos over the summer.

The transfer window before that, Chelsea also signed 19-year-old Andrey Santos, who is already a Brazil international.

His loan spell at Nottingham Forest is not going well, with the midfielder having played just one Premier League game so far, but it is clear to see that he is an individual with a lot of talent.

The question now is will Reis join Santos, Washington and Angelo at Chelsea? We will have to wait and see. But again, while he is likely to cost a lot of money, you cannot rule it out, especially with the Blues having already got their wallet out for another 16-year-old in Kendry Paez.
