Chelsea have told Malang Sarr he’s still free to leave the club this month while transfer windows overseas remain open.

That is according to a report from The Athletic.

They claim that the Blues have outlined to Malang Sarr they’re content for him to find a new club despite the fact that the Premier League’s transfer window is closed.

It is explained that the 24-year-old’s representatives have considered the likes of Besiktas and AEK Athens as potential new clubs, but there’s been no agreement yet with either club. It’s worth pointing out the Turkish and Greek transfer windows are still open until mid-September, though.

The report add that the Saudi Arabian league is a possible route as well, but nothing has developed yet.

Sarr is getting the opportunity to try find a new home this month. However, he could end up staying at Stamford Bridge if nothing happens.

The French centre-back hasn’t been involved since Mauricio Pochettino took charge as head coach, but could he somehow force his way back into the squad? Our guess is it seems very unlikely.

In fairness, the £120,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender has looked a little out of his depth during 21-first team games for Chelsea.

In our view, it would be great for all parties if the player’s agents can find a move in the coming days. The Blues would surely love to get his big wages off the bill.

The centre-back department is one area Chelsea are completely stacked, this is even factoring in Wesley Fofana’s long-term injury absence.

We’ll be intrigued to see who emerges as the preferred centre-back partnership under Mauricio Pochettino.

Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiahile, Trevoh Chalobah and Axel Disasi are all viable options moving forward this season.
