Chelsea have been in contact with Real Madrid and made an enquiry for Federico Valverde.

That is according to a report from 90min.

They claim that Chelsea, along with several other high-profile clubs, have all enquired about Real Madrid star Federico Valverde this summer.

It is understood that Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have made informal approaches as well.

However, the report says that Spanish giants Madrid immediately dismissed the contact.

In fact, Valverde’s agents have responded to approaches from interested buyers by relaying the message from the player that he doesn’t want to leave the Bernabeu. He actually views himself as future captain material.

With the Madrid midfield looking stacked right now with serious quality, you can’t blame clubs for chancing their arm and asking about Valverde.

However, it sounds like the 24-year-old star is staying put for the foreseeable future.

The versatile Uruguay international, who can play as a central midfielder or a right-winger, would be a phenomenal signing for any club side in the world.

He’s grown into a key player in the Madrid line-up in recent times, scoring 12 goals and making seven assists in 56 games across all competitions last season.

Spanish publication Defensa Central reported earlier this week that Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has asked his owners to try sign Valverde in this summer transfer window.

They added that the Blues could be prepared to pay as much as €120million (£103million) for the South American ace, who was brilliant in last season’s Champions League competition.

Any hope of an Enzo Fernandez-Valverde midfield partnership seems like pure fantasy.
