Chelsea have now left Tyler Adams in a sticky situation after deciding to pull out of a £20m deal to sign the American from Leeds United.

That is according to The Athletic.

So, what is the situation involving Chelsea and Tyler Adams? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea came extremely close to signing the United States international last week – with Fabrizio Romano even giving the deal his trademark Here We Go after the Blues triggered a £20m release clause.

However – after Liverpool bid £111m for Moises Caicedo – Chelsea turned their attention to finally getting a deal for the Ecuadorian over the line, while also agreeing a £53m fee for Romeo Lavia.

In the midst of this drama, the deal to sign Adams was abandoned, and Chelsea have now left the 24-year-old in a difficult situation as a result of that decision.

The Athletic believe the Leeds United No.12 was heading for Bournemouth instead of Stamford Bridge after the Cherries matched Chelsea’s £20m offer.

However, Leeds United insist that his release clause has now expired, meaning that the time spent negotiating with Chelsea ultimately cost Adams an easy way out of Elland Road.

Chelsea have let Tyler Adams down

We understand why Chelsea immediately turned their attention to Caicedo and Lavia, as the pair are two of the best young midfielders in Europe.

However, it really does feel as if Chelsea used Adams purely to accelerate deals for the aforementioned duo, and the Blues have now caused a real problem for the American.

It feels highly unlikely that Daniel Farke will let a key player leave for just £20m without a release clause in place, and it remains to be seen if Bournemouth are willing to spend more following the expiration of this purchase option.

Hopefully, Adams can still find a way to get back into the Premier League, after Chelsea left him in limbo.
