Chelsea are trying to see if a deal for Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema this month is possible.

Karim Benzema reportedly wants out of Saudi Arabia and journalist Simon Phillips has now shared an update on the 36-year-old on Substack.

“I am pleased to tell you that Chelsea have actually done more than ask the question,” Phillips wrote to supporters.

He also claimed that the Blues have reached out to both a financial expert and one of Benzema’s representatives to see if a deal is viable.

The Frenchman is one of the top strikers in the world. He scored 31 goals in all competitions last season and has been described as “world class” by former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique.

Chelsea make contact with Karim Benzema’s representative

It looks like Benzema is a genuine option for Chelsea this month, with the club seemingly reaching out to one of his people.

That will delight Chelsea supporters because again, the former France international is one of the best No.9s in the game.

Yes, Benzema is not getting any younger, but he showed last season that he is still capable of scoring goals.

His record this term is not too bad either after netting nine times in 15 league appearances, though the Saudi Pro League is obviously nowhere near as strong as La Liga.

The battle for European football in England is really tight. Mauricio Pochettino‘s side currently sit ninth in the Premier League table yet are only four points behind sixth.

Add Benzema’s goals to this Chelsea team, and there is no reason why they cannot overtake some of the clubs above them and qualify for the Europa League.

All in all, if the finances add up, then bringing Benzema to Stamford Bridge on a short-term deal makes a lot of sense if you are Chelsea.
