Going into the summer transfer window, Chelsea’s priority seems to be signing a new striker and central defender.

They have missed out on Dean Huijsen, but Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi remains an option for Chelsea.

As for the centre-forward position, Chelsea are interested in signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, who will be forced to watch their talisman leave this summer because of a relegation release clause in his contract.

However, it looks like the Blues could also bring in another midfielder when the transfer market opens.

Chelsea make ‘important offer’ to Frank Anguissa

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Chelsea have held talks over signing Frank Anguissa from Napoli.

And now, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Blues have made an “important offer” to the 29-year-old.

The same outlet claims that Anguissa has a clause in his contract that will allow him to evaluate offers in the upcoming transfer window.

Anguissa played a huge role in Napoli’s title triumph, making 35 appearances in Serie A this season. He also scored six goals and provided four assists.

The new Serie A champions will want to keep hold of the Cameroonian, but that may be out of their hands.

A move to Chelsea would see Anguissa return to the Premier League after a spell with the Blues’ west London rivals Fulham.

Why Enzo Maresca will not be begging Chelsea to sign Frank Anguissa

Anguissa has certainly shown that he is a good player this term. Without his contribution, Napoli may not have won the Serie A title.

However, the Cameroon international will not start ahead of Moises Caicedo or Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea.

Chelsea are set to welcome back Andrey Santos, too, and have already agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon to sign Dario Essugo. It means Enzo Maresca could have Caicedo, Fernandez, Santos, Essugo and Romeo Lavia all as midfield options next season.

With that in mind, the Chelsea head coach will not be begging for Anguissa or any other midfielder.
