Chelsea have registered interest in signing Lyon’s attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki.

That is according to a report from 90min.

Lyon youngster Rayan Cherki, who’s just 19, has been linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge recently.

Football London claimed earlier this week that Chelsea watched Cherki throughout the 2022/23 season during scouting missions and are weighing up a bid to sign him.

Now, fresh reports suggest there’s been contact with Lyon regarding the teenage playmaker.

90min claims that Chelsea have voiced their interest in signing Cherki during recent conversations with Lyon about Christian Pulisic.

The report adds that those in charge at Chelsea have admired the Ligue 1 rising star for ages.

Despite his youthfulness, Cherki has now played 102 first-team games in Lyon colours.

The creative attacker managed five goals and six assists last season across all competitions in 39 appearances.

If you ever tune in to watch the France Under-21 international, you’re sure to be entertained by his skill and technical qualities on the ball.

Described as “very talented” by Lyon manager Laurent Blanc (Get Football News), Cherki is the kind of exciting youngster we would love to see playing at Chelsea in the future. Should we be prioritising the signing of more creative players, though?

According to But Football Club in France, Lyon want around €50million (£43million) to allow Cherki’s sale this summer.

This is where we need to be careful investing so much in a player who’s still mainly all about potential.

It’s been fantastic watching the Blues sign so many exciting youngsters, but Mauricio Pochettino is going to need a decent amount of experience in his first-team squad to do well next season.

Our advice to the club would be to focus their immediate attention on strengthening the central midfield position with experience and quality.
