Chelsea’s attempt to sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo has been a work in progress for some time now.

That is according to a report from The Athletic.

Chelsea’s summer transfer window so far has been dominated by player exits, with the club doing some fantastic work to sell some high-profile first teamers and trim the squad.

The Blues supporters may be growing impatient with the lack of new arrivals at Stamford Bridge, though.

It’s starting to dawn on everyone that Chelsea must sign in the central midfield position, and Moises Caicedo from Brighton is the target strongly mentioned in the transfer rumour mill.

The Athletic has claimed that Chelsea have done so much groundwork to try make Caicedo their player.

It is understood that the Blues hierarchy were working on the 21-year-old’s potential transfer well before the summer window even opened.

The report adds that rival buyers have been put off Brighton’s defensive midfielder through fears he was destined to join Chelsea.

It’s going to continue frustrating the Blues fanbase the longer this Caicedo deal isn’t confirmed, but it’s refreshing to hear he’s a long-term target the club have identified a long way out.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter on Friday that Chelsea and Brighton are still in negotiations this week regarding Caicedo’s possible move to West London.

Described as “incredible” by Brighton’s Adam Lallana (Football Daily), Caicedo is still not a Chelsea player.

It would be great for the club to get him signed and delivered for Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino in the coming days, though.
