Even though Moises Caicedo is currently tied down to a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have plans to reward him with a contract extension.
Moises Caicedo, 23, has gone from strength to strength as a key Chelsea player under Enzo Maresca.
The Ecuador international is currently one of the world’s elite defensive midfielders, contributing so much for the Blues without the ball. He’s actually scored two goals in the opening four Premier League matches of this season, too.
Gianfranco Zola’s verdict of Caicedo is that he’s matured a lot in the past 18 months.

Chelsea plan to reward Moises Caicedo with new contract
Caicedo, whose current deal at Chelsea runs until 2031, could soon be offered a contract extension.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues are keen to reward their star midfielder with an improved contract to signal his importance to them. Apparently, Chelsea really value the 23-year-old because of his leadership, skill and behaviour.
Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano said: “I’m told that Chelsea want to negotiate and to advance a new contract for Moises Caicedo…
“Chelsea are very happy with him. They invested big money, of course, but Chelsea believe it was very well spent. They like the leadership. They like the skills. They like the behaviour of Moises Caicedo. Chelsea believe that Moises Caicedo is setting the example for young players for the future… Chelsea want to extend his contract and want to give him what he deserves.”
Prior to the 2025/26 campaign, Caicedo mapped out his plans for improvement, even though he was Chelsea’s Player of the Season last term. The early signs are that he’s doing just that.
The midfield powerhouse is bossing games in the centre of the park, forming a great partnership alongside Enzo Fernandez. We suspect it could be a busy fixture for them both on Wednesday night away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, though.
Caicedo, who’s been tipped to be the world’s best No.6, can truly underline his greatness with top performances on the Champions League stage this season.

Moises Caicedo setting the bar in the Premier League
Caicedo has been outstanding for Chelsea in the opening few weeks of the season. In fact, he’s the only individual in the division to hit double digits for tackles and interceptions so far.
For Chelsea’s backline, they must love having Caicedo acting as the defensive screen in front of them, breaking up attacking threats so often before they develop.
He’s finally beginning to consistently show why the Blues splashed out £115m to sign him from Brighton in 2023. Without a doubt, he should be in the club’s long-term plans, so keeping him happy with a contract extension makes perfect sense.
