Chelsea have reportedly given a transfer move for a £65m-rated striker some serious thought recently.

A lot of the speculation in the last 24 hours has been around Chelsea’s potential interest in Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, but he’s not the only No 9 linked with Stamford Bridge.

Journalist Guillermo Arango claimed on X that Chelsea have reached an agreement with Villa to sign Duran for €50m (£42m).

Blues fans will now wait to hear more developments about the inexperienced 20-year-old Villa forward.

In the meantime, Enzo Maresca’s side are still linked with alternative options to fill the striker position.

Chelsea consider £65m striker

Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips claimed via his Substack on Tuesday that Chelsea are thinking about a possible move for Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke.

Phillips wrote: “Sources have just confirmed to me that Dominic Solanke is now being seriously considered by Chelsea.”

Solanke, 26, is a Chelsea academy product but made just one appearance for the Blues first-team as a youngster before carving out a first-team career for himself elsewhere.

The English centre-forward is now established as a quality Premier League player, scoring 19 top flight goals last season in Bournemouth colours.

TalkSPORT recently claimed that Chelsea and Tottenham do hold an interest in signing Solanke this summer. Apparently, there’s a £65m release clause in the striker’s Bournemouth deal that’s either London club could choose to trigger.

Dominic Solanke over Jhon Duran

If it’s a straight shoot out between Solanke or Duran this summer, the former gets our vote nine times out of 10.

Chelsea need a forward with a bit of experience to join this summer and compete with Nicolas Jackson for a starting position.

With Solanke, he’s a pretty complete attacker that has now shown he’s capable of scoring in the Premier League. His development has taken longer than some may have expected, but he’s grown into a top player.

As for Duran, his signing feels like it would be far too risky and do little to help the young squad.
