In fresh transfer rumours, Chelsea are now interested in signing a player who’s currently at the Club World Cup.
The Blues are one of eight teams still left competing in this summer’s Club World Cup tournament in the United States.
Next, Enzo Maresca’s side face Brazilian club Palmeiras on Saturday in a fascinating quarter-final clash.
Chelsea are rated as favourites to win the Club World Cup by Opta’s Supercomputer in their latest calculations, so let’s see if they can deal with the added pressure. On a smaller scale, the young squad has a taste of winning silverware after lifting the Conference League back in May.

Chelsea hold discussions about Soumaila Coulibaly
Journalist Kaveh Solhekol reports via X that Chelsea have held talks about signing Borussia Dortmund’s Soumaila Coulibaly.
Apparently, the Blues have spoken about signing the 21-year-old defender with the view that the young talent would initially play for Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club in France.
Coulibaly, who’s been on Dortmund’s books since 2021, has only played two first-team games for the German giants. Incidentally, he’s been an unused substitute in all four of Dortmund’s matches at the Club World Cup so far ahead of their quarter-final showdown with Real Madrid.
The centre-back spent the 2024/25 season on loan with French club Brest, where he did struggle with a couple of injuries.
If Chelsea are successful with their pursuit of Coulibaly, it looks like he could be on his way back to France straight away.

Chelsea could repeat Andrey Santos trick
As mentioned above, Chelsea could use their connections with Strasbourg to see Coulibaly join the Ligue 1 club.
Blues midfielder Andrey Santos, 21, has benefited from the exact same trick.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is really excited about Santos because he thinks he can be an exciting addition to the squad at Stamford Bridge.
The central midfielder was outstanding in France during his loan at Strasbourg, scoring 11 goals in 35 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign as they clinched seventh in Ligue 1. If any Chelsea-owned player does join Liam Rosenior’s Strasbourg, they are certainly in very safe hands to develop as a footballer.
