Chelsea in talks to sign Victor Osimhen, but deal will be called off if one thing happens

The transfer rumours are beginning to ramp up this week regarding Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and a potential transfer to Chelsea.

Victor Osimhen, 25, has been linked for a long time as a possible Chelsea target. The centre-forward is certainly an attractive option after scoring 76 goals in 133 Napoli appearances, too.

It was claimed in a recent report by CaughtOffside, Chelsea have not given up on signing Osimhen, but recognise they trail Paris Saint-Germain in the race for his signature in this summer window.

There’s now been exciting fresh reports emerge on Tuesday about the Blues and their attempts to bring the prolific Serie A centre-forward to Stamford Bridge. However, it sounds like there’s plenty of obstacles to overcome before any kind of deal is possible.

Chelsea warned they can’t speak to Victor Osimhen yet

Respected journalist Simon Phillips has just provided a lengthy transfer update via Substack on Tuesday morning.

Phillips has claimed that Chelsea and Napoli are currently in discussions over a possible swap deal involving Osimhen and Romelu Lukaku.

It is understood that Napoli want to sign Blues striker Lukaku, with their manager Antonio Conte pushing for the transfer to happen. Likewise, Chelsea would love to bring in Osimhen.

Apparently, Chelsea will need to speak with Osimhen’s agents to discuss any potential transfer, largely to work out if it’s financially viable because of the player’s large wages. However, Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has told them not to begin discussions with the 25-year-old’s representatives yet or he’ll call off any deal.

He wants to make sure there’s no pressure on the transfer, but he’s still happy engaging with the Premier League club about a possible swap involving Lukaku.

It was recently claimed via respected journalist Fabrizio Romano on YouTube that Conte is ‘crazy’ about signing Lukaku this summer. Let’s wait and see if Osimhen ends up heading the other way to West London.

Victor Osimhen would be a game-changer

Chelsea’s business in the recent transfers windows has been pretty underwhelming, especially so far this summer. However, the club’s recruitment team can be forgiven if they get this reported transfer over the line.

Osimhen is the sort of ready-made striker the Blues squad is crying out for! On paper, the Nigeria international could be absolutely perfect.

The most obvious strength is that Napoli’s frontman is a proven goalscorer. Even during an injury-hit season last year, he still netted 17 goals in 32 matches across all competitions.

Chelsea’s 2024/25 campaign could have a completely different outlook if they’ve got Osimhen as the main force leading the line.
