Chelsea keen to accept £4m loss on Tuchel signing after bid arrives, but player doesn’t want to go

Chelsea are now keen to accept a £6m bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club.

That is according to the Daily Mail – however, there is an issue.

So, what is the latest on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Gabon international has 12 months remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, but does not appear to be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

The Daily Mail believe Chelsea are ready to accept a £6m bid for Aubameyang – which would represent a £4m loss on the initial £10m spent on his services back in September when Thomas Tuchel was in charge.

However, the 34-year-old is not interested in a move to Saudi Arabia, and is hoping for Chelsea to let him leave on a free transfer instead as he aims to rejoin Barcelona.

Clubs in the United States are also looking at Aubameyang.

A free transfer would open up more opportunities for the Chelsea No.9 this summer, although in terms of Financial Fair Play, you can understand why Todd Boehly wants to accept the £6m bid.

Ultimately, Aubameyang can’t be forced to go somewhere he doesn’t want to, so Chelsea risk starting a civil war at Stamford Bridge if they accept the bid while ignoring the striker’s preference.

Chelsea should release Aubameyang

In our view, Chelsea should simply cut their losses and release Aubameyang on a free transfer.

£6m is not a huge amount of money – in the context of modern day football – and the Blues would benefit from having his significant salary removed from the wage bill.

Aubameyang currently earns £170,000-a-week at Chelsea, which is far too much for someone who made just five Premier League starts in the 2022/23 campaign.

Hopefully, one of the Major League Soccer sides based in the United States can match the £6m bid from Saudi Arabia, giving Aubameyang another option while ensuring Chelsea do not miss out on the money.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we expect Aubameyang to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
