Chelsea have looked at free agent Roberto Firmino in recent weeks, but they’ve decided not to step up their interest for financial reasons.
That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.
Reporting on his Substack, Phillips exclusively claims that Chelsea have checked on Roberto Firmino as a potential transfer target.
He adds that the Brazilian has been mentioned by some at Stamford Bridge, but his wage demands have prevented the Blues from advancing with any interest.
The 31-year-old striker is available as a free agent this summer because his Liverpool contract expires this week, but he’s managed to exit Anfield as a cult hero. In fact, he scored 111 goals in Liverpool colours, winning European and domestic trophies along the way.

We like the idea of Chelsea recruiting a frontman this summer that is clinical and proven in England’s top division.
It doesn’t look like the Liverpool fan favourite is that man, though.
Instead, transfer rumours suggest he could be the latest high-profile footballer to make a move to the Saudi Arabia league.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter this week that Al Ahli are in discussions with Firmino’s representatives about signing him.

Interestingly, Mauricio Pochettino named Firmino as one of the top three players in the Premier League three years ago (Football London).
In fairness, the Brazilian has been such a key cog at centre-forward of Jurgen Klopp’s era in charge at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have struggled to find a top-class No 9 since Diego Costa left the club in 2017.
If Pochettino is going to succeed in his new role as Blues head coach, the club have got to help him out by recruiting a proven striker in this summer window.
