Chelsea are reportedly one of the top clubs interested in signing a La Liga midfielder in the summer transfer window.
Even though there are already some top-class options in central midfield within the Chelsea squad, rumours suggest they may want more reinforcements in that area.
The Blues can already call upon the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the centre of the park. Chelsea captain Reece James covered in midfield in a recent Premier League clash as well.
On top of that, Chelsea will also welcome back midfield talent Andrey Santos to Stamford Bridge from a successful season-long loan at Strasbourg in the summer.

Chelsea looking at Atletico Madrid star Pablo Barrios
According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are one of the sides targeting a potential move to sign Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios in the summer transfer window at the end of the season.
It is understood that the 21-year-old La Liga star is attracting interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Tottenham.
The report says that the central midfielder, who made his senior international debut for Spain earlier this campaign, has impressed a lot of suitors with his performances. Apparently, he’s currently got a release clause in his Atletico contract worth around €100m (£83m).
Chelsea and Atletico have done plenty of transfer business together over the years, so let’s wait and see if they’re negotiating again later in 2025.
For instance, Conor Gallagher and Joao Felix moved in opposite directions last summer. Gallagher is thriving at Atletico under the management of Diego Simeone, while Felix was loaned out to AC Milan by the Blues in the winter transfer window.

Pablo Barrios a more accurate passer than Enzo Fernandez this season
Barrios, who’s a product of the Atletico academy, has really started to cement his position in the starting XI in the last 12 months.
In the 2024/25 campaign, the Spanish midfielder has been instrumental in and out of possession for his club side. It’s interesting to note that he’s a more accurate passer than Chelsea’s midfield general Fernandez when you compare their respective league form.
| Appearances | Goals | Assists | Pass accuracy | Average rating |
| 20 | 0 | 2 | 87.3% | 7.32 |
| Appearances | Goals | Assists | Pass accuracy | Average rating |
| 25 | 4 | 4 | 84.7% | 7.21 |
While we’re not arguing Barrios looks a real star in the making, he wouldn’t be the first name on our summer wish list. Instead, Chelsea need to go make a new striker and a new goalkeeper the priority going into next season.
