The transfer market is spiralling out of control, but Chelsea cannot be blamed for once!
Chelsea’s only signing so far has been Marco Palestra, who cost the club £47m following his move from Atalanta.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have just spent £100m on Sandro Tonali, while Manchester City paid £116m for Elliot Anderson. Spurs have also forked out £85m on Mateus Fernandes, which is huge money for a midfielder who was recently relegated.
There is still plenty of time in the transfer window for Chelsea to get their wallet out, but there is one player they will not be breaking the bank for.
Who is the best £100m midfielder in the Premier League?
Chelsea make correct call after refusing to pay Rodrigo Mora‘s £70m release clause
A report on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea claims that the Blues have been scouting Porto attacking midfielder Rodrigo Mora.
According to the report, Porto have told all interested clubs that Mora will cost his full £70m release clause, but Chelsea will not be looking to pay that.
All things considered, it is the right decision. Mora has a high ceiling, while the Club World Cup holders probably need another attacking midfielder going into the new season.
However, Mora scored just one goal in 28 league appearances last term. Xabi Alonso needs way more firepower than that. After all, he is taking over a team who finished 10th in the Premier League table.

Mora is also still a teenager. This Chelsea squad is young and immature and thus needs more experience. The Portuguese is not going to give them that.
If Chelsea are going to sign someone from Porto this summer, it should be goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Costa impressed at the World Cup before Portugal’s elimination at the hands of Spain and has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
All in all, at £70m, it is hard to imagine Chelsea signing Mora. But never say never in this crazy market.
