Chelsea managed to secure a £15m discount on Robert Sanchez after initially being told to pay £40m earlier this summer.

That is according to the Daily Mail.

Well, it is also said that Brighton even valued the Spain international at £70m not that long ago – he was incredibly highly rated at the Amex Stadium.

Even after Sanchez slipped to third choice in the pecking order under Roberto De Zerbi behind Bart Verbruggen and Jason Steele, the Seagulls still felt he was worth £40m.

However – according to the Daily Mail – Brighton eventually relented when Chelsea came back in for Sanchez, and a deal worth £25m was wrapped up on Saturday 5th August.

Given how stubborn the Seagulls can be at the negotiating table, that can be considered something of a victory for the Blues. The Spaniard also has plenty of time to get even better at the age of just 25.

Sanchez will now go up against Kepa Arrizabalaga for the No.1 spot at Stamford Bridge, where he has been reunited with Ben Roberts, his old Goalkeeping Coach at Brighton.

Robert Sanchez discount should give Chelsea hope

In our view, the fact Brighton accepted £15m below their asking price for Sanchez should give Chelsea hope that the Seagulls will do the same with Moises Caicedo.

There is currently a £20m gap in valuation between Chelsea and Brighton, with the Blues most recently offering £80m for the Ecuador international, while the Seagulls hold out for £100m.

According to El Universo, a £90m bid will soon be made, and after Brighton agreed to sell Sanchez for a discounted price, Chelsea should feel optimistic that another agreement can be struck.
