Chelsea may now be prepared to break the British transfer record to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton this summer.

That is according to a report from Sky Sports.

The Moises Caicedo transfer saga has swung one way then the other for the past 48 hours, with the latest indication that Chelsea are now back in the driving seat ahead of Liverpool to sign him.

You would be a brave man to predict where the 21-year-old midfielder will end up, though.

Sky Sports claimed on Friday night that Chelsea are back working on a deal to sign Caicedo after it seemed like all hope was lost.

It is understood that the Blues had been prepared to pay £100million for the Brighton star, but Premier League rivals Liverpool swooped in by agreeing a £111million transfer.

Afterwards, the player himself had a change of heart over a move to Liverpool and decided he only wants to join Chelsea this summer.

The report explains that now Chelsea are working on upping their offer for Caicedo by offering Brighton an extra £15million, which would total a mammoth £115million sum. This would be a record transfer in British football, too.

FootballTransfers claims that Caidedo is “furious” with Brighton for their attempts to sell him to Liverpool when he only wants to join Chelsea.

The Blues fanbase are going to love hearing the South American midfielder is desperate to end up in west London this season.

Described as “incredible” by Adam Lallana on Sky Sports (May, 2023), Caicedo ticks almost every box you could want in a midfielder.

Hopefully, we’re edging closer to a conclusion in this crazy saga!

It’s certainly not been pretty in this transfer pursuit, but Chelsea supporters won’t mind if Caicedo is holding up a blue shirt at the end of it.
