Chelsea have just agreed to sell Ian Maatsen to Burnley for £31.5m as Vincent Kompany steps up his pursuit of the Dutchman.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Ian Maatsen at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, that is a remarkable bid from Burnley for a player with just two Premier League appearances to his name.

Romano believes the Clarets have shaken hands with the Blues over a £31.5m fee for Maatsen, and Chelsea have also negotiated a sell on clause in the deal.

It comes after the Netherlands Under-21 international shone on loan at Turf Moor last season, making 39 Championship appearances as Burnley won the league title.

Maatsen also earned a place in the Championship Team of the Season as a result of his superb efforts, scoring four goals while also providing six assists in those 39 outings.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Burnley have agreed £31.5m package deal for Ian Maatsen from Chelsea. Fee includes add-ons. There’s still no green light from player side. Chelsea would also have sell on clause as part of the deal.”

Ian Maatsen does not want to leave Chelsea for Burnley

While the money on the table is seriously good for Chelsea – it would be pure profit due to the fact Maatsen is an academy graduate – there is a problem.

As Romano states, the 21-year-old has not agreed to return to Turf Moor just yet, so he will take some convincing.

Ultimately, the fact Chelsea have agreed to sell Maatsen permanently on deadline day suggests Mauricio Pochettino does not see him featuring heavily this season.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen between now and tonight’s 11pm deadline.
