Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Santos youngster Deivid Washington.

That is according to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Deivid Washington, who’s just 18, is a young rising star who plays for Brazilian top-flight club Santos.

Now, rumours are circulating that he could become the latest teenage talent to join Chelsea. It would certainly follow the trend of recent Blues signings such as Andrey Santos, Diego Moreira, and Angelo Gabriel.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday night that Deivid to Chelsea is now “imminent”.

Apparently, personal terms are already agreed between the two clubs for the 18-year-old striker.

Santos are now expected to accept Chelsea’s proposal worth €20million (£17million).

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Deivid Washington to Chelsea, deal now imminent after official bid submitted in the last hours for 2005 born Brazilian striker.

“Deivid agreed personal terms and wants Chelsea move — Strasbourg loan to follow.

“€20m package bid submitted as per Globo… Santos, set to accept.”

Deivid is still relatively inexperienced at first-team level, playing just 16 appearances for Santos since his senior breakthrough.

Therefore, we like the idea of him coming to Chelsea and immediately being loaned out somewhere in Europe.

French side Strasbourg, who are part of the multi-club project for Chelsea’s owners, are named as his the Brazilian youngster’s most likely destination for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

We’re fascinated to see how many of these young gems make it to the Blues first team in a few years time.
