Chelsea now face competition from Saudi clubs to sign £100m player

Chelsea may have to go up against teams from the Saudi Pro League to sign one player this month.

With the transfer window now open, Chelsea have the chance to bring in a new striker.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Brentford’s Ivan Toney remains an option for them. However, writing on his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, he claimed that clubs from Saudi Arabia are also interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Whoever purchases Toney will have to spend a lot of money.

Back in November, Sky Sports reported that Brentford value their talisman at a whopping £100m.

Saudi Pro League clubs could thwart Chelsea’s Ivan Toney plans

Chelsea are a rich club and have shown that in the last few transfer windows, but so are some of the sides in the Saudi Pro League.

They could make things really difficult for Chelsea if the Blues do decide to go after Toney this month.

What Chelsea obviously have going for them is the fact that they play in the Premier League. Toney is at the peak of his career. Is he going to want to swap the English top flight for the Saudi Pro League right now?

The England international scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last term. He will surely want to build on that and perhaps win some silverware in England.

One day in the future, perhaps Toney could move to Saudi Arabia. But right now, it is hard to imagine him going there.

In terms of alternatives to the Brentford man, with there obviously no guarantee that Chelsea will actually sign him, the Blues have recently been linked with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world and would perhaps be a better addition than Toney. The Argentine has already scored 15 Serie A goals this season.
