Chelsea are now reportedly fearful that Christian Pulisic won’t want to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
Pulisic, 24, had an impressive World Cup tournament for the United States, who have been eliminated from the competition by the Netherlands in the knockout rounds.
The left-winger looked somewhere back to his best as a real talisman in attack for his country.
He’s got just one goal in 18 Chelsea appearances this season, something not helped by a lack of starts, but there’s no doubting he still has huge individual talent.
Pulisic won’t sign new Chelsea contract
Journalist Simon Phillips has indicated that Chelsea are now actually considering discussions with Pulisic to see if he wants to extend his stay in West London. As it stands, his current contract is due to expire in 18 months time in the summer transfer window of 2024.
However, the Blues feel the United States star won’t want to entertain the idea of signing a fresh contract.
“They want to hold talks with him and see if he’s open to staying beyond [2024]. At the moment, they’re not getting a feeling that he’s going to do that, so I think in the summer is when we’ll really be having a conversation about Pulisic’s future,” Phillips told GIVEMESPORT.
In our view, Pulisic should be promoted to Graham Potter’s starting line-up when Chelsea return to action after the World Cup break.
Potter must be impressed by what he’s seen at the World Cup from Pulisic, who has shown during his Chelsea career he can make crucial impacts in big moments. Will the Blues head coach be willing to trust him for an extended run of games, though?
It would surely take quite a big U-turn for Pulisic to feel like he’s valued as one of the club’s key players.
If Potter wants to pick on form after the World Cup, the U.S. winger has to be in the team.
