Chelsea like the idea of signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz this summer to replace Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Chelsea look like they’re waving goodbye to both Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in this summer transfer window, who are attacking midfielders that will leave quite a big hole at Stamford Bridge.

Havertz, 24, has already officially completed his move across London to join Arsenal. Meanwhile, everybody is now waiting for confirmation that Mount is heading to Old Trafford, but journalist Fabrizio Romano claims on Twitter it’s a ‘done deal’ for around £60million.

Phillips has reported on his Substack that Chelsea are keen on Florian Wirtz to replace Havertz and Mount.

The Bayer Leverkusen star, who’s still only 20, is on the Blues radar for this summer transfer window.

It’s important to note that Phillips claims Chelsea are specifically on the search for an individual who can play as a number 10 or on the wing.

Wirtz certainly ticks the boxes with his ability to play centrally or out wide on the right, so could we see Mauricio Pochettino’s side ramp up interest in the weeks ahead?

Described as “technically gifted” by ESPN, Wirtz is a rising star in the Bundesliga with so much potential.

He’s already played 103 first-team matches for Leverkusen, scoring 23 goals and making 30 assists.

There’s no doubting he’s quite an exciting young talent with a big future ahead of him, but Chelsea supporters may find it hard to get excited about these playmakers until a proper No 9 is signed.

We certainly wouldn’t mind Wirtz coming in to compete with the likes of Christopher Nkunku for a creative spot in the XI, but there has to be a recognised striker leading the line next season.
