Chelsea have set their sights on a possible move for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Phillips has claimed on his Substack that the Blues have been internally discussing for weeks the idea of signing a new centre-back in this summer transfer window.

He claims that Chelsea are now considering a move for Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo.

Adarabioyo, who’s now 25, is a very highly-rated centre-half.

The Englishman has been a key Fulham player since he moved to Craven Cottage back in 2020, but he’s a product of the Manchester City academy with a great schooling at the Etihad Stadium.

It’s certainly worth flagging previous comments from Man City boss Pep Guardiola, who was impressed by Adarabioyo when he saw him in training.

Guardiola once said about Adarabioyo, as quoted by GOAL: “He is fast, strong in the air, and has the quality to look forward behind the line for the next pass… He definitely has a future in the first team. He is a nice guy, his mind is open, he listens, he trains every day like it’s the last training of his life and I like to work with these kinds of players a lot.”

We think Fulham’s defensive rock could be a decent option as squad cover at Chelsea, but we don’t see any reason why the club should be pushing for him this summer.

As it stands, Mauricio Pochettino’s squad has another defensive cover, even with Wesley Fofana recently suffering a long-term injury.

Trevoh Chlobah, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile provide excellent options at centre-back going into the new season.
