Chelsea are taking an interest in Ajax’s goalkeeping duo Charlie and Tommy Setford.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk.

Charlie and Tommy Setford, who are brothers, were both born in the Dutch city Haarlem. However, they qualify as English and have already represented the Young Lions at various international age groups.

Chelsea interest

TEAMtalk claims that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on both Setford brothers.

It is understood that Charlie Setford, who’s 19, is also on the radar of Premier League rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham. He’s still waiting to make his senior debut, but he’s a back-up goalkeeper for Ajax’s first team this season.

Meanwhile, the report says that Tommy Setford is being looked at by Tottenham and Newcastle United. The 17-year-old keeper is developing in Ajax’s Under-18s side this year.

For certain, the youngsters fit the profile of many Chelsea signings under this ownership at Stamford Bridge. It’s pretty clear that they’re always on the search for the best upcoming talents.

The Evening Standard previously reported that Chelsea could abandon their policy of only signing players aged 25 or under to pursue Brentford’s Ivan Toney. We do continue to receive lots of transfer links to unknown talents, though.

Charlie Setford and Tommy Setford

Charlie, the older brother, is around the main squad right now for Dutch giants Ajax. This means he’s part of a matchday in both their Eredivisie and Europa League matches this term.

He’s been involved with England’s national set-up all the way to the Under-20s group. We’re interested to see how he copes when a first-team debut comes along.

As for Tommy, he’s a couple of years young and growing in the Ajax system, which has always been regarded as one of the world’s elite academies.

He played for England’s Under-18s side last month in a friendly match against South Korea.
