Chelsea are now set to launch a bid to sign Andre Onana after Inter Milan suffered a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final.

That is according to the Evening Standard.

So, what is the latest on Andre Onana and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, you’re probably getting a bit tired of reading about Onana, as there have been plenty of mixed reports.

A story from Tutto Mercato Web claimed that the Cameroon international has already been the subject of a £34m bid from Chelsea and is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, the best sources – including Fabrizio Romano – have reiterated that no talks would take place before Inter Milan’s UEFA Champions League final.

Now – as detailed by the Evening Standard – it genuinely sounds as if Chelsea are going to begin pushing to sign Onana, with the 2022/23 campaign officially over.

It is said that Chelsea are now set to make an offer for the 27-year-old with Inter Milan demanding £50m.

Onana himself is keen on a quick resolution regarding his future, and Inter Milan are said to be in need of a major sale to ease their financial problems.

Therefore, it sounds like a deal could happen for Chelsea.

Chelsea prepared for Onana collapse

If talks to sign Onana – who Pep Guardiola called “exceptional” – fall apart, Chelsea are prepared.

The Evening Standard add that Pochettino has three backup options as he attempts to bring a new goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge.

One of those is Valencia No.25 Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is actually described as the Argentine’s second choice behind Onana.

Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund and Brentford No.1 David Raya are also on Chelsea’s shortlist.

Mike Maignan is mentioned by the Evening Standard too, although AC Milan’s £80m asking price has put the Blues off.

Be sure to keep an eye on Onana’s situation, as it seems he could be leaving Inter Milan for Chelsea if all goes well.
