Chelsea are now tempted to make a move for Monaco defender Axel Disasi – with Manchester United and Arsenal also keen.

That is according to RMC Sport in France.

So, what are the details involving Chelsea and Axel Disasi? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the French news outlet believe Manchester United lead the race for the Monaco No.6 this summer.

However, Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the situation, and are tempted to make a genuine attempt for Disasi’s signature.

RMC Sport explain how the Blues have a vacancy emerging in the centre-back department with Kalidou Koulibaly on his way to Saudi Arabia, while those on the recruitment team at Stamford Bridge are said to be huge fans of the France international as well.

Monaco want €40m (£34m) for the 25-year-old this summer.

Disasi enjoyed a remarkable 2022/23 campaign for the French side, scoring six goals while also providing four assists in 49 appearances from centre-back.

The Gonesse-born defender also captained Monaco on ten occasions last season, so he is someone Mauricio Pochettino would be able to call a leader in west London.

Why Chelsea should not sign Disasi

In our view, Chelsea should avoid a move for Disasi.

Despite the fact Monaco’s colossal figure has been described as a “complete defender” by Ligue 1 analytics, his arrival would surely push Levi Colwill away from Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old, who has been the subject of a £30m bid from Brighton after last season’s stunning loan spell, looks capable of making a real name for himself at Chelsea next season, with The Times stating that Pochettino rates him highly.

However – according to talkSPORT – Colwill is going to ask for a move if Chelsea cannot guarantee him regular game time next term.

Koulibaly’s exit opens up the door for Colwill, but if Chelsea block the England Under-21 international’s pathway by adding more competition in Disasi, it could force the precocious defender to leave.
