Chelsea are now pessimistic about signing Mike Maignan from AC Milan this summer – despite his unhappiness at the San Siro.
That is according to Football London.
So, what is the latest on Chelsea and Mike Maignan? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to La Repubblica in Italy – the France international is considering an exit from AC Milan after Paolo Maldini was sacked from his role as Director of Football.
The unpopular decision has caused unrest at the San Siro, with Theo Hernandez also upset.
Despite Maignan’s unhappiness with the situation, Chelsea still believe it will be difficult to sign the 27-year-old this summer.

Football London state that Chelsea – who would probably be able to convince the Frenchman to join given his frustration in Italy – feel it will be tough to find an agreement with AC Milan over a fee.
Maignan has made his way onto Chelsea’s radar following a standout 2022/23 campaign with AC Milan, in which he kept ten clean sheets in 29 appearances as the Italian giants reached the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Maignan alternatives for Chelsea
As should be the case with any transfer target, there are backup options for Chelsea to pursue if no progress can be made with Maignan – who has been called “brilliant” by Thierry Henry.
Football London add that Brentford No.1 David Raya is on Chelsea’s shortlist.
Elsewhere – according to Tutto Juve – Juventus No.1 Wojciech Szczęsny is also a target, and could be available for just £9m as the Italian giants attempt to get his large wages off the salary bill.
Furthermore – as detailed by Tutto Mercato Web – Chelsea have made a bid for Inter Milan glovesman Andre Onana, who seems to be the one of the primary targets along with Maignan.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Mauricio Pochettino targets a new goalkeeper.
