Chelsea now want their transfer targets to have three characteristics

Chelsea are tweaking their transfer strategy this summer, and it is not hard to understand why.

This season has been a disaster for the club, putting the spotlight on Alejandro Garnacho and some of the other signings sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley made last year.

The majority of them have not been successes, with it thought that Chelsea are already prepared to part ways with Garnacho. A shift in the Blues’ recruitment policy now appears to be on the horizon.

Chelsea targets must now have experience, emotional maturity and strong character

The chiefs at Chelsea have finally seem to have acknowledged that they cannot have a team full of young players.

According to The Athletic, the Club World Cup winners will be looking for three characteristics in potential transfer targets this summer. They are experience, emotional maturity and strong character.

When you consider the average age of this Chelsea squad and how some of the players in it have behaved this term, you would have to say that all three are lacking.

After his sacking, it was even claimed that Liam Rosenior thought some of his players acted like children.

The Stamford Bridge faithful will now be hoping that the summer transfer window can correct that and some of the other issues in the squad.

How Julian Alvarez ticks all three boxes

One player Chelsea have been linked with is Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

If he is guaranteed game time up front, Alvarez could be open to a move to Chelsea this summer, though there could be a lot of competition for his signature.

Whatever the case, he is an individual who definitely ticks the boxes Chelsea are looking for. A 26-year-old Argentina international who has played for both Atletico and Manchester City, Alvarez has experience and at the very top level.

At City, Alvarez was never quite able to cement a place in the starting XI because of Erling Haaland. But the Argentine was patient. He did not throw his toys out of the pram and asked to leave the club at the right time, showing maturity.

In terms of character, Alvarez has really kicked on at Atletico after failing to establish himself at City. This season, he has scored 19 goals, and in the previous campaign, he scored 29. He was able to rebuild himself in Spain and move on from being Haaland’s deputy, which is a display of strong character.
