Chelsea have now opened talks with Ajax about signing Mohammed Kudus this summer.

That is according to a report from The Athletic.

They claim that Chelsea have now expressed interest in signing Mohammed Kudus by contacting Ajax and starting initial dialogue.

It is understood that the Blues are yet to submit an opening bid for the 22-year-old. However, the player himself is close to agreeing personal terms with Chelsea ahead of a potential transfer to Stamford Bridge.

The report adds that Kudus is keen to leave Ajax after turning down a one-year contract extension in Amsterdam.

The Daily Mail claimed this week that Arsenal hold an interest in signing £40million-rated Kudus this summer.

But it sounds like Chelsea are acting fastest and trying to bring the Ghana international to the blue side of London.

In our view, this is the sort of signing Blues supporters could get really excited about.

There may still be a lot to do in terms of agreeing the transfer itself with Ajax, but he’s a player that kills several birds with one stone.

Kudus is such a versatile talent that really is capable of playing anywhere across the midfield or attack. You usually see the best of him as a right-winger or a box-to-box midfielder.

He’s an all-action athlete with superb stamina and aggression, which he combines with technique and quality on the ball.

His return of 18 goals and seven assists in 42 games across all competitions last season for Ajax highlights his quality in the final third. This is a player aged just 22, too!

Described as “exceptional” by John Heitinga (VoetbalPrimeur), Kudus looks a great fit for the Premier League.

We definitely support pushing hard for this Kudus transfer if they can just drive down the player’s £40million valuation a little bit.
