Chelsea are reportedly considering goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen as a possible target from Spanish and Champions League giants Barcelona.
According to the Daily Express, Blues manager Frank Lampard would be prepared to offload his number one Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer and Real Madrid are keen on his signature.
It is understood that it could open the door for a big-name replacement at Stamford Bridge if Kepa depart and eyes have now turned to Barcelona’s shot-stopper.
The report explains that Chelsea have been alerted to Ter Stegen’s situation at Barcelona, as he’s had a falling out with Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi.
Ter Stegen is under contract with the La Liga club until 2022 and it’s unclear on how much he would cost, but he would be a serious statement signing if the club could pull off a deal for him.
The 27-year-old is someone in the prime of his career right now and he’s been in the conversation for the world’s best goalkeeper during the last few years.
He’s got 94 clean sheets in 224 senior games for Barcelona and there is no doubt he would be an upgrade on Kepa, who unfortunately is still prone to errors.
Ter Stegen is one of the best around at playing out from the back and is so comfortable with the ball at his feet, something that’s so important to play for Barcelona.
But at the same time he’s got excellent reflexes and is a colossus in goal, so is the type of summer signing that would show Chelsea are serious about competing back at the top of football again.
