Chelsea have made some serious moves in the transfer window this week, but one potential signing has emerged that will leave those of a Chelsea persuasion feeling dumbfounded.
At the start of the week, it was reported Chelsea had hijacked a move to sign Marco Palestra from Italy. The two-time Italy international is expected to move to West London for an agreed figure of just £43m.
DISCUSS: Granit Xhaka is Chelsea’s perfect summer signing 🔟
Plenty of players have been linked as is the way with Chelsea, but new reports claim that Granit Xhaka could now end up at Stamford Bridge with the Switzerland skipper already agreeing a wage with Chelsea.
But it appears that might not be the end of things. Indeed, a report from TuttoMercatoWeb says Chelsea could make a bizarre move to sign a player they had decided to sell just 18 months ago, in January 2025.
Chelsea consider re-signing player they sold for just £12.5m
In the summer of 2022, Chelsea signed Italy youth international Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan. But his three-year stint at Chelsea did not go to plan, as is the way with many youngsters bought by BlueCo.

After loans at Reading and Leicester City and just 17 senior Chelsea appearances, Casadei was sold to Serie A side Torino. He has since played 51 times for Torino and scored seven goals during 2025-26.
That has alerted some bigger clubs and even some interest from the Premier League. But according to the latest report, Chelsea could end up re-signing Casadei this summer – following his £12.5m departure.
What Chelsea plan to do with Cesare Casadei…
It’s a bizarre move. Casadei is clearly a talented player but his time at Chelsea was anything but a success, ending in failure and seeing the midfielder have to reinvent his career with Torino in Italy’s top tier.
What target are you setting Xabi Alonso in his first season as Chelsea manager?👀
Why would he consider a return to Chelsea, and why would Chelsea consider re-signing him? Chelsea even have a 27% sell-on clause in Casadei’s deal, so a move would forsake any fee for that clause too.
The report claims Chelsea would only buy him with the intention of loaning him out again. Ipswich Town are named as a potential suitor, but this move makes zero sense, when it made little sense back in 2022.
