Chelsea have set their sights on Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as a potential transfer target.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk.

They claim that Aaron Ramsdale, 25, is now someone on Chelsea’s radar.

It is understood that the Blues do retain faith for now in their own keeper Robert Sanchez, but they’re monitoring the Arsenal gloveman and would consider a move if he becomes available.

The report mentions that any kind of transfer pursuit is unlikely to take place midway through the season during the January transfer window, so any interest would be put on standby until next summer.

Chelsea target another goalkeeper

TEAMtalk says that Arsenal currently value Ramsdale as a £60million-rated player amid interest from Chelsea.

The Englishman’s lost his starting position at the Emirates Stadium this season to David Raya, but the player holds hope of breaking back into the XI.

Apparently, insiders don’t expect the 25-year-old shot-stopper to try move in January, despite the fact his lack of club football could be damaging his England aspirations ahead of Euro 2024.

Speaking via BBC Radio 5 Live in August, Peter Schmeichel described Ramsdale as a “fantastic” and “brilliant” goalkeeper.

He didn’t do too much wrong before losing Arsenal’s No 1 position this season under Mikel Arteta, but we’re not overly keen on Chelsea putting a big bid together for him next year.

Aaron Ramsdale situation

Ramsdale was a big success last year at Arsenal as the main keeper, but he’s not played in the Premier League since the start of September after losing his position to Raya.

The Englishman’s game isn’t faultless and he can be a tad better on the ball. However, at the age of 25, he’s shown a lot of potential and ability already.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson recently agreed that Ramsdale must be “fuming” right now with his situation.

Wilson said on the BBC’s Footballer’s Football Podcast: “Surely he will lose faith when the other person is not playing as well as they should be and you’re still not then getting an opportunity. You’re thinking what’s happened here. Basically someone has come in, the manager wants a look at them, fine. If they’re doing well, absolutely not a problem. But you have paid a lot of money for me in the first place as well. If someone is making a mistake and you’re still not getting put in, what do you do?

The presenter said: “If you’re Ramsdale you have to be fuming.

Wilson replied: “Of course!”
