Chelsea set to offer ‘magnificent’ youngster another new deal after Championship enquiries

Championship clubs are already making enquiries to sign a Chelsea youngster on loan for the 2025/26 season.

There are so many talented youngsters on the Chelsea books right now, spanning across the first team, academy and group of individuals out on loan.

Five Blues talents were included on NXGN’s best wonderkids list, including Brazilian rising star Estevao Willian.

It’s clear that the philosophy under this Chelsea ownership is to promote youth and be home to some of the world’s elite youngsters, but they must be wary not to neglect the value of experience.

Chelsea to negotiate new Teddy Sharman-Lowe deal before another loan

Within Chelsea’s army of loan players in the 2024/25 campaign, Teddy Sharman-Lowe has been one of the standouts for his performances at Doncaster Rovers. The 22-year-old goalkeeper has been part of a Doncaster side that secured promotion from League Two.

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea are already receiving enquiries from across the English Football League about Sharman-Lowe’s availability for next season, including from teams in the Championship.

It is explained that the English keeper signed a one-year contract with the Blues last summer with the option of an additional year.

Now, Chelsea are expected to negotiate another deal with the young gloveman before sending him away on loan again next season to give him more senior experience.

It’s been claimed that Chelsea would like Teddy Sharman-Lowe in the Championship next season. The England Under-21 international has excelled in League Two during a promotion-winning campaign, so it feels like a sensible step up.

He’s been with the Blues since 2017, having joined them as a 17-year-old from Burton Albion, and this season feels like a real breakthrough one in his career.

Doncaster manager Grant McCann described Sharman-Lowe as “magnificent”, as quoted by The Herald, after he starred last week in the game that secured the team promotion back to League One.

Chelsea need to fix goalkeeper problem

When it comes to the 2025/26 season, Chelsea must find themselves a clear definitely No 1 who can consistently perform at a high level in goal.

Both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have failed in between the sticks this term. Therefore, will either Mike Penders or Djordje Petrovic get a look-in next season after successful loans at Genk and Strasbourg, respectively.

For Sharman-Lowe, it feels far too early to bring him into the conversation for Chelsea’s first team.

If the English shot-stopper can perform in the Championship, it may be a different conversation in a year’s time.
