Chelsea still consider ‘fantastic’ £38m defender a transfer target, Liverpool have made enquiry

Chelsea are still looking at a Premier League defender as a potential transfer target, but they’ll face competition from both Liverpool and Manchester City for his signature.

The Blues have already signed several new players in this summer window, including defensive pair Tosin Adarabioyo and Renato Veiga. Speaking via Chelsea’s official website, Veiga said he doesn’t have a favourite position, but he can play left-back, centre-back or defensive midfield.

It will be interesting to see if head coach Enzo Maresca is happy adding another defender to his pretty large squad at Stamford Bridge.

Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri is still a target for Chelsea

According to CaughtOffside, Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Ait-Nouri remains an option for Chelsea and Man City.

It is understood that Liverpool have made an enquiry about the 23-year-old left-back.

The report explains that Ait-Nouri is open to leaving Molineux Stadium if an appropriate offer comes his way.

Apparently, Wolves have set a price tag of around €45m (£38m) for their full-back and they’ll stand firm to that valuation.

Journalist Simon Phillips reported via Substack in March that Chelsea hold an interest in signing Ait-Nouri. While it sounds like interest in the Wolves man is still there, the Blues are yet to make any kind of approach.

Described as “fantastic” by Ruben Neves back in 2020 via Wolves’ official website, Ait-Nouri is surely destined for a big move at some stage in his career.

Do Chelsea need another left-back?

There’s no doubt that Ait-Nouri is a talented young player in the Premier League. In particular, he really suits playing a left wing-back position for Wolves.

However, Chelsea should avoid him unless they decide to sell one of their senior left-backs this summer.

Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella provide two brilliant options on the left of defence. Also, new signing Veiga can cover in that role.
