Chelsea still ready to sign striker despite cooling interest in two names

Chelsea still look to be keen on signing another centre-forward ahead of the 2024/25 season.

However, their interest in two players who they have considered bringing in this summer now appears to have cooled.

While Chelsea have signed Marc Guiu, the Spaniard is still just 18 years of age, explaining why they still want another striker to support Nicolas Jackson.

The Blues relied on Jackson heavily last season, with the Senegal international making 44 appearances in all competitions.

Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, though, and another No.9 are unlikely to be the striker who comes in and helps Jackson. There is now a possibility that Duran could join West Ham instead.

Chelsea no longer keen on Jhon Duran and another centre-forward

According to The Athletic, Chelsea’s interest in Duran has cooled.

The 20-year-old is not the only centre-forward who the Blues no longer seem to be keen on, though.

This summer, they have been linked with several different No.9s, not just Duran.

The above includes Lille’s Jonathan David, but The Athletic’s report says that while Chelsea are ready to act if a top striker becomes available, interest in David and Duran has died down.

It has been claimed that Chelsea sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have followed David for a while, but it does not look like they will be making a move for him this summer.

Should Chelsea have cooled their interest in Jhon Duran and Jonathan David?

Chelsea have young strikers around like Guiu and Armando Broja. Trusting them instead of forking out big money on Duran would make sense.

Doing that instead of going all out for Duran’s signature is probably the way to go.

David is a different story, though. The Canada international has way more experience than Duran at 24 and has a good goal record at Lille.

For example, David scored 26 goals in 47 appearances for the French club last season. Ultimately, Chelsea should not have cooled their interest in him so quickly.
