Chelsea are now plotting a move to sign Fin Cartwright from Middlesbrough before Friday’s transfer deadline.

That is according to TEAMtalk.

So, what is the situation involving Chelsea and Fin Cartwright? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it is said that Chelsea think the 16-year-old wonderkid could develop into a superstar, and the Blues have earmarked him as a player of real potential.

TEAMtalk believe Chelsea want to sign Cartwright this summer, as Todd Boehly continues his quest to hoover up the very best young talent from around Europe.

The Blues have already pinched wonderkids such as Angelo Gabriel, Lesley Ugochukwu, Deivid Washington, Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei.

Now, Cartwright – who became the second youngest debutant in Middlesbrough’s history when coming on against Huddersfield earlier this season – is in Chelsea’s sights.

The teenager operates in a central attacking midfield role, and has already, impressively, made 11 appearances for the Under-18 side at Middlesbrough, which is above his age rank.

Fin Cartwright rumour should encourage Chelsea fans

In our view, this is encouraging news for Chelsea fans – as it shows Boehly has not forgot about English talent.

The American has largely focused on signing wonderkids from South America since taking over from Roman Abramovich, although the interest in Cartwright suggests Chelsea’s scouts are still highly active on these shores.

It would be great to see some of the best Brazilian talent starring at Stamford Bridge in future, although it is always important to maintain a connection with the local community by having some homegrown players in the side too.

Regardless of whether Chelsea sign the Middlesbrough prodigy or not, it is good to see Boehly place such a strong emphasis on future proofing the squad with top prospects.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea try to sign Cartwright before Friday’s transfer deadline.
