Chelsea may be prepared to take a significant financial loss to sell a first-team player this summer.
Despite the excitement of seeing so many talented new faces join the Chelsea squad in the summer transfer window, it’s obvious that plenty will need to leave Stamford Bridge to keep the numbers at a reasonable size.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca wants a maximum of 23 first-team players in his squad next season.

Chelsea prepared to sell Christopher Nkunku on the cheap
The latest transfer rumours suggest that Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku, 27, could soon be on the move.
According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United have been quoted £35m to sign Chelsea’s Nkunku this summer.
It is explained that he moved to West London in a £52m deal from RB Leipzig two years ago, but the Blues are braced to take a big hit by selling him for a ‘cut-price’ figure.
The report says that Nkunku is deemed ‘surplus to requirements’ at Chelsea after struggling to find top form in English football. Apparently, Man Utd have the French forward on their shortlist, even though he’s not their number one target.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| RB Leipzig | 172 | 70 | 56 |
| Paris Saint-German | 78 | 11 | 4 |
| Chelsea | 60 | 18 | 5 |
When you consider that Nkunku is still only aged 27, he should be entering his prime years. It’s why he could represent real value for money for any suitor at around £35m.
It makes sense for all parties that Nkunku moves on from Chelsea because he’s struggled to find his best form, but he’s shown in the past he can be a serious attacking threat, particularly as a No.10.
Reports in May claimed that Nkunku is expected to leave Chelsea in the summer window amid interest from the likes of Newcastle United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. It sounds like Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd side are now sniffing around him, though.

Christopher Nkunku is playing at Club World Cup despite exit speculation
It’s a testament to Nkunku’s professionalism that he’s playing regularly for Chelsea at this summer’s Club World Cup tournament despite all the talk around his future.
| Match | Minutes played | Goals |
| Chelsea 2-0 Los Angeles FC | 6 | 0 |
| Flamengo 3-1 Chelsea | 0 | 0 |
| Esperance 0-3 Chelsea | 90 | 0 |
| Benfica 1-4 Chelsea | 39 | 1 |
| Palmeiras 1-2 Chelsea | 54 | 0 |
The French forward has played in four of the club’s five matches en route to the semi-finals, where they will face Brazilian club Fluminense.
It feels like Nkunku’s exit is a no-brainer because Joao Pedro has already arrived as the like-for-like replacement in the squad.
