Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has explained why he’s yet to sign a new contract with his club, after claims that Chelsea reportedly want to sign him.
Raya, who’s now 27, is a talented keeper playing some fantastic football in the Premier League.
The shot-stopper has been a key player for Brentford over the past 18 months, which even led to him earning a spot in Spain’s final squad for the winter World Cup. Incidentally, Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga missed out on a place on the plane to Qatar.
It’s no real surprise to hear the Brentford gloveman linked with a big move at club level.

David Raya interest
According to The Telegraph last month, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham may all be interested buyers in Raya. They add the 27-year-old expects to leave in the summer for somewhere between £15million-£20million.
He’s definitely proven in recent times his consistency and quality to impress in the top division.
A lot of his experience at a younger age was earned in the Championship with Brentford and Blackburn Rovers, but he now looks the kind of accomplished keeper good enough for a step up.

What he has to say
Raya has openly admitted that he’s failed to reach an agreement with Brentford after contract negotiations last month.
He insists that his focus and commitment is still with the Bees, but there’s no hiding from the fact that he’s attracting interest at a time his current deal expires in 2024.
Raya has shared it’s not the right time for him to sign a contract extension and he’ll wait until the summer to decide his future.
“I don’t think it’s the right time to sign a contract at the moment,” Raya said, as quoted by The Independent.
“I’m really, really happy and right now I’m just thinking about doing the best for the team and trying to push for Europe.
“I was offered a new contract last year and one in January but we didn’t reach an agreement. I would like to see what happens in summer, however I’m happy at Brentford.
“You never know what’s around the corner. There’s nothing I can say about what’s going to happen in the summer. I don’t even know what’s going to happen on Saturday.”
