Chelsea are reportedly making progress in their contract talks with N’Golo Kante about his future.
Journalist Simon Phillips reports on his Substack that contract discussions with the 31-year-old Blues star are “ongoing and positive”, especially compared to earlier in the season.
It is understood that the Chelsea midfielder loves the club and living in London, so they’re optimistic a new deal can be finalised.
As it stands, the France international is due to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Phillips adds that Kante will probably need to take a wage cut on a new contract. Also, there’s interest from European giants Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool in his signature this summer.

Chelsea fans are patiently waiting to hear some positive news on Kante, who’s been such a key figure at the club for so many seasons since his £30million arrival from Leicester City.
This campaign has been a really tough one due to a hamstring injury, which meant he missed the World Cup with France and he’s not played since August.
However, the central midfielder’s been spotted back in training this week in what should be a big boost to the rest of the squad.

Chelsea’s midfield has been a problem area of the pitch for much of the 2022/23 campaign. Many people have forgotten about Kante’s absence for half a season, though.
The arrival of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica last month has gone a long way to reenergising the Blues midfield.
Hopefully, Graham Potter can start to get a tune of a midfield that has a plethora of options with the likes of Fernandez, Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Denis Zakaria, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher.
