Chelsea could reignite interest in Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to reports.

The Telegraph claims that Chelsea made contact about signing the 25-year-old star in the January transfer window, but Newcastle were quick and firm in their response to shut down any potential move.

Graham Potter’s side are ‘likely’ to be back in for the Brazil international at the end of the season, though. The report adds that they could even submit a transfer bid.

It is understood that the Blues will face competition from Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the Premier League midfielder.

According to The Telegraph’s report, Guimaraes is actually close to agreeing a new deal with Newcastle. His long-term future at St James’ Park is still unclear, though.

Described as “outstanding” by Eddie Howe, Guimaraes is a top-quality player shining in the Newcastle team right now.

He’s an all-action central midfielder that offers plenty in both halves of the pitch, which is why his £40million signing from Lyon last year looks a steal.

Voted by supporters as the best outfield player outside the Premier League’s ‘big six’, Guimaraes is more than good enough to play at the elite level.

There is a chance Newcastle will soon be operating at the top table in club football the way they’re progressing, but how long will it take for their project to fully get there?

Guimaraes is the gem in the Newcastle side with pressure on his shoulders, but we expect he wouldn’t have any problem adjusting to one of Europe’s top sides.

He’s the complete package who would be an exciting addition to at Chelsea. Do the Blues really need him, though?

It would be great for the Chelsea to have more goals from the central midfield position. However, there is still a lot of midfield talent at Stamford Bridge with the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante.

If Newcastle do manage to keep hold of Guimaraes next season, they’ll have done a great job.
