Benfica expect Chelsea to come back with another offer for midfielder Enzo Fernandez ahead of the January transfer window deadline, according to Record.
The Blues confirmed their seventh January signing after announcing the transfer of Malo Gusto on Sunday, but they are still looking to add another midfielder to their ranks.
Fernandez, who played a big role in Argentina’s World Cup-winning campaign last month, is one of their key targets.
Reports suggest that Blues have already made several offers to Benfica for the 22-year-old, but the Portuguese club remain adamant that they want the player’s full €120million (£105m) release clause to be paid.
According to Record, Chelsea have not given up on their pursuit of Fernandez and are expected to be back and offer €100m (£87m) plus players for the midfielder.
Depending on the valuations of the players that Chelsea reportedly want to include in the deal, such an offer could be worth even more than Fernandez’s release clause.
However, Record suggests Benfica are not interested in selling such a key player mid-season and have been trying to raise the release clause by €30m (£26m), instead.
In addition to that, club president Rui Costa has also promised Fernandez a payment of €2m if the Argentina international decides to stay at the club until the end of the season.
