Chelsea transfer news: Evan Ferguson to snub Blues for Brighton stay

Evan Ferguson is reportedly set to snub interest from Chelsea to stay with Brighton & Hove Albion, with the teenage wonderkid making a huge statement in regards to his future.

According to the Sun, the Republic of Ireland international wants to remain on the south coast despite interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, with Ferguson keen to stay with Brighton to continue his development.

The striker has been one of the breakout players in the Premier League this season with Ferguson kick-starting his international goalscoring with Ireland earlier this week against Latvia, and the teenager now wants to remain with Brighton even with Chelsea eyeing the youngster.

Under Todd Boehly, the west London side have been on a massive recruitment drive that has seen Chelsea add some of Europe’s best young talents to their senior and academy sides, with Ferguson clearly a player that the Blues wanted to add to their ranks.

However, the Ireland sensation has seemingly made his short-term future fairly clear with his intention on staying with Brighton, a club that could be perfect for Ferguson to take his game to the next level under Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Indeed, whilst Chelsea could provide Ferguson with chances to play in Europe, staying with Brighton is realistically the best decision the striker could make this summer, especially with the Seagulls hitting incredible new heights under their new head coach this season.

For many top Premier League prospects, securing the big-money move to a big club as soon as possible is usually a route that the majority of youngsters would take, yet Ferguson choosing to go against the grain could prove to be an incredible decision for the Chelsea target.

As we know, Ferguson will likely not come in straight away and play regular football with Chelsea, and for the striker at this stage of his career, staying at Brighton for an extra year or two could be what sets the Irishman on his way to having an incredible time in the Premier League.
