The future of N’Golo Kante in a Chelsea shirt is up in the air.

According to The Athletic, it remains far from certain that Kante will still be a Chelsea player next season.

The report explains that the Blues have made positive progress with their 31-year-old midfielder when discussing a possible contract extension, but his future is unclear until any kind of agreement is reached.

With the France international’s deal expiring this summer, Graham Potter’s side are starting to run out of time to sort his future.

Kante, whose £30million signing several years ago is one of the best pieces of business in Chelsea’s history, is not guaranteed to still be at Stamford Bridge next season.

There’s definitely a massive love within the fanbase towards the Frenchman for everything he’s achieved in West London.

However, the fact he’s made just two appearances so far this season across all competitions highlights that injuries are starting to become a real big problem of his game.

Incidentally, L’Equipe previously claimed Kante may return from his hamstring problem by the end of February.

In our view, Kante is worth keeping for a couple more years because the upside is so big if he can stay fit.

The all-action midfielder does have big question marks against his name whenever he returns from these injury layout, but he’s usually bouncing back in style.

It would be great to see him play next to the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Mateo Kovacic in the second half of this campaign.
