Chelsea trying to sign Moises Caicedo before turning their attention towards ‘very talented’ £43m playmaker

Chelsea won’t shift their attention towards signing Lyon’s Rayan Cherki until they complete a move for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

That is according to a report from Football.London.

Most of the attention at Stamford Bridge this summer has been around the crazy amount of player sales, but there’s still some speculation that the Blues are hunting for new recruits as well.

Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki, 19, is an individual linked with Chelsea very recently.

It sounds like Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently prioritising 21-year-old midfielder Moises Caicedo from Premier League rivals Brighton, though.

Football.London claims that Cherki is still a transfer target for Chelsea, with the club even contacting the player and his representatives. Apparently, their feedback was positive regarding a potential transfer as well.

However, the report says that the Blues want to put this Caicedo saga to bed before focussing elsewhere in the transfer market.

They add that Chelsea and Brighton will continue discussions over the weekend for the defensive midfielder, but a second bid in the region of £70million was recently rejected by the latter.

In our view, Pochettino’s side are spot on to prioritise in the centre of the park before looking for more creators. We’re desperately short in that position and Caicedo would make such a difference.

At the same time, we would hate to see Cherki slip through our fingers.

Described as “very talented” by Lyon manager Laurent Blanc (Get Football News), Cherki could be such an exciting addition at Chelsea if it happens.

The attacking midfielder is a superb dribbler and great off both feet. He’s the type of adventurous player that supporters enjoy watching, too.

French publication But Football Club previously claimed that Ligue 1 side Lyon want around €50million (£43million) to allow Cherki’s sale.

It would be a bit of a risk at £40million-plus. Let’s see what Pochettino makes of him, though.
